Jerry A. Adkins, 68, of rural Slater, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Blue Lick Cemetery south of Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Memorials may be made to Fitzgibbon Cancer Center in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.

Born Oct. 8, 1939, in Wakenda, he was the son of the late Harry Adkins and Mary Smart Adkins. On May 18, 1960, he married Nancy Lee Crawford, who preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2007. He had lived in Marshall since 1968, moving to rural Slater in October of 2006. He worked in the warehouse industry most of his life, including building warehouses and supervising them. He also worked at ConAgra in Marshall where he was a supervisor. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Allen Adkins and fiancée, Mary Kay Johnson, of Slater and Kevin Adkins of Marshall; one daughter, MaryEtta Adkins of Slater; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters, Pat Fry of Blue Springs and Donna Adkins Crawford of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
