His cemetery records, death notice and death certificate all show his surname as " Rinnier ".

Served as a Corporal with the Company G, 21st Pennsylvania Calvary during the Civil War.

Thomas' death certificate, death notice and Riverview Cemeteries records show the spelling of his surname as RINNIER.

The son of Benjamin & Susan (Esbin or Eastburn) Rineer (as several family members spelled it) and stepson of Elizabeth King Rineer), he married Margaret Montgomery October 27, 1859, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and fathered Laura B. (b. 04/23/61), Samuel E. (b. 11/30/62), Louella (b. 06/05/66), Leander Blair (b. 09/26/68), Douglass Frederick (b. 05/09/72), Lola (b. 02/07/74), Truman B. (b. 01/21/77), and Alice (b. @1879). In 1860, he was a farmer living in Drumore Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 7" tall with light hair and blue eyes.

In 1860, he lived with his bride in Drumore Township, Lancaster County.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Lancaster July 24, 1862, mustered into federal service there August 11 as a corporal with Co. C, 135th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 24, 1863. He also enlisted in Chambersburg February 12, 1864, mustered into federal service there February 25 as a private with Co. G, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry (182nd Pa), and promoted to corporal September 11, 1864. He was absent sick in the hospital at muster-out but likely was discharged July 8, 1865, the same date as the rest of the regiment.
