Pvt. Michael W. Murdock, 22, of Chocowinity, N.C.; was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Sept. 11 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained at Combat Outpost Lybert, Afghanistan, when he was struck by enemy fire. Michael is survived by his parents, Slade and Jennifer Tripp of Chocowinity, and Walter and Melinda Murdock of Washington; his grandmother, Dot Morris of Bath, and grandfather, Don McDermott of Pahrump, Nevada; and his uncle, Michael McDermott of Greenville. He is also survived by Gina and Jeff Rhinehart of Old Fort, NC; Ginger and Adam Spencer of Swan Quarter, NC; Janelle Chadrick of Springboro, Ohio; Lillian and Bob Gervasi of Winterville, NC; Margaret Woods of Washington; Rodney Murdock of Washington; Robert and Betty Murdock of Winterville, NC; along with many cousins who also survive. Michael was preceded in death by his grandmother, Helen Brinson Lilley and his uncle, James Murdock.
