The Late Thomas Hodgson.
Thomas Hodgson was born in Cumberland county, Nova Scotia, Feb. 25th, 1838, and therefore was nearly 67 years of age. When a young man of about 18 years he moved to the county of Bruce Ontario, where he resided until his removal to North Dakota. About 43 years ago he was married to Miss. Charity Webb, who preceded him to the better Land five year ago. In 1881 he bid goodbye to his friends and the scenes of his early life in Ontario and removed with his family to Pembina county, locating upon a homestead about five miles southeast of Bathgate, where he resided until the master called him home. Some eighteen years ago, under the ministerations of Rev. John Stewart he was converted to Christ and subsequently joined the Tongue River Baptist church of which he was one of the founders and trustees. He was a consistent christian man and sought for the upbuilding of the moral and Christian sentiment in his community. He was held in the highest esteem by neighbors and all who knew him; especially was there tender regard for him on the part of the member of his own family, by whom he was much beloved, and whom he loved in return. While the departure of his precious spirit leaves many sorrowing hearts among those that knew him best and loved him most, still none we believe could wish him back to this life to continue the sufferings that wrought upon him during the long tedious weeks prior to his death. The sorrow today among the bereaved loved ones of earth shall be turned into joy in the glorious re-union of tomorrow in the heavens.

The deceased leaves one sister, Mrs. S. Stull of Glasston, and the following children, all residents of this county; Mrs. Jas. A. Willosn [sic], Mrs. Wm. Peckaring [sic], Mrs. H. F. Graves, Miss. Hester Hodgson, Mesers. Willard, Fred and Samuel Hodgson. Also a large number of grand children.

Funeral services were held from the Tongue River church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S. Van Tassel and D. Finlayson. The sermon was preached by Rev. Van Tassel from the text in Job: ?The Lord givith and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord.?

The remains were desposed in the Cavalier cemetery beside those of the beloved wife of the deceased.
