After finishing High School, May took a job at the Ogden Knitting Company, an apparel sewing factory, as a straight sewer. She worked her way up to an inspector.
May married Leo Thomas West on March 28, 1936. Their first daughter Linda was born on December 26, 1941, right after Pearl Harbor. Daughter Sandra was born in 1946. May went to work at the Arsenal in Toelle Utah making 37 mm shells for the war effort while the kids were in school.
In 1954 the family moved to California. May took care of children, cared for women fighting cancer, and catered church dinners. She worked for the Simi Valley School district making the lunch items for the children, which was sent to various schools.
May and Leo moved to St. George Utah in 1973 when Leo retired. They enjoyed rock-hounding together until Leo died in 1979. May died on October 8, 2000 in St. George, Utah.
