George served as a Private with the 4th Delaware Infantry, Company C during the Civil War.
He was 33 when Capt. McCluskey mustered him in on Aug. 13, 1862.
He was a morocco dresser, just as his father & uncle, and fellow Company C soldiers, James & Daniel O'Neill.
He was discharged with heart disease on October 28, 1864.
His grave originally was unmarked ... Mr. Tedd Cocker ... was able to order, secure and have installed a Civil War Style headstone for him. ( viewed to the left )
