James received a gun shot wound at the battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg on September 17th 1862.
On September 21st, he would be sent to # 2 U.S.A General Hospital in Frederick, Maryland, where he would be discharged due to wounds on November 20th 1862.
On April 13th 1863, Private Lang would be admitted to the General Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, which would later become Tilton General Hospital. He was later discharged from the Hospital.
