Sterling Price Hornbuckle was named after Major General Sterling Price that commanded the Confederate forces in Missouri. He was the child of Alfred Hornbuckle and Nancy White Hornbuckle. His father, Alfred served in the war of 1812 in Colonel Poage's Regiment of Kentucky Dragoons under General Harrison.
