Born in New Britain on February 13, 1914, he was son of the Frederick and Mary (Ott) Anderson, graduated from New Britain High School, Class of 1932 and has lived in Kensington for the past 57 years. He served in the Army Air Force in World War II and was a member of the VFW Post 511 in New Britain. After the war, he served a long career as Quality Control Inspector for the United States Navy. He belonged to the Civil Defense Patrol and the Swedish Svea Club in Kensington. John was a member of the Timberlin Golf Club, loved gardening and enjoyed traveling.
John is survived by his wife, Evelyn, four daughters, Lynne Anderson of Kensington, Janice Jacobs and her husband Gary of East Berlin; Joanne Norr of Farmington; and Ellen Grochowski and her husband Paul of Middletown; and one son, John Anderson, Jr. of Derry, NH. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Lisa Jacobs of East Berlin; Jennifer Jacobs of Collinsville; Christopher Jacobs of Santa Clara, California and Theresa Grochowski of Middletown; as well as a cousin, John Ott, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Marie (Rhea) Anderson Howard and son-in-law Daniel Norr.
Funeral Services are set for Wednesday, September 17 at 9:15 a.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Alling Street, Kensington.
Burial will be in West Lane Cemetery.
Calling hours are on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home.
