Based on Mrs. Barbara Long Knotts research, this cemetery also contains the unmarked grave of: James Acey/Asa Anderson 1817>1862-1863 h/o Elizabeth Druzilla Johnson.
CSA Co. K, 36th Infantry.
James A. Anderson, son of Asa Anderson and grandson of James Anderson, who served in the War for Southern Independence with the rank of private. He came home on leave with measles or contracted measles while on leave and died shortly thereafter from complications and was buried in the Mason Cemetery. This information was told to both Mrs. Knotts and Robert Lee Anderson in 1989 by Mrs. Rosa Lee Anderson Bush who at this time was 99 years of age. Mrs. Knotts, Mr. Anderson & others believe the referenced Mason Cemetery, because of Anderson kin known buried here, is actually the Old Union Cemetery and was known by others as the Mason Cemetery. As to why the name Mason Cemetery? We can only speculate that there may be surname Mason family buried here or either it was because of the Masonic emblems engraved on J. R. Smith and John W. Well's grave markers.

This information is in the Jasper County Cemetery Book , Compiled in 1999 by: Jones County Genealogical & Historical Organization, Inc. Laurel, MS.
