Son of Robert Lee Barnett and Mary Jane Ruckman Barnett. Husband of Mrs. Lee Barnett. Father of Jerrold, John, and Bill.

John R [Ruckman] Barnett Dies; Services Set Friday.


Services for John R. Barnett, whose great-grandfather was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence will be held at 2 p. m. Friday in the Pat H. Foley & Co. chapel, 2802 Milam. Officiating at the service will be Rev. W. P. Deatherage, pastor of the Second Christian Church. Burial will be in forest Park.


Barnett, 49, died Wednesday in his home, 2301 Southmore Blvd. He was South Texas sales manager of the hospital division of the A. S. Aleo Co. A native of Karnes County, Barnett had lived in Houston 22 years. His great grandfather, George Washington Barnett, represented Washington Municipality in the Convention of 1836. He signed the Texas Declaration of Independence at Washington on the Brazos.

Barnett's family still owns a league of land his ancestor received near Gonzales for his part in the Texas Revolution.


Barnett was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Karnes City, and a member of Paul Carrington Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. He was educated at Texas A & M. College. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lee Barnett; three sons, John, William and Jerrold, all of Houston; two brothers, W. L. and Robert L. Barnett, both of Karnes City, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Hensley of Karnes City.
