He enlisted May 3, 1862. Captured at Bakers Creek May 16, 1863 (Battle of Champion Hill near Vicksburg). Sent to Camp Delaware, paroled July 3, 1863. Evidently he rejoined the remnants of the 46th, because he was captured again on July 30, 1864 near Atlanta. This time he was sent to Camp Chase, Ohio and was held until the end of the war.
