John L. Biddle, Sr., 66y of Old Deerfield Pike, Upper Deerfield Township died early Sunday morning in Bridgeton Hospital following an extended illness. He had been a hospital patient one week.
Born in Bridgeton, the son of the later Herman and Elizabeth Turpin Biddle, he was the husband of Erla J. Jones Biddle. A lifetime resident of this community, he had resided at his present address for 40 years. Mr. Biddle was employed by the former Price Label Co for 37 years.
After its closing he took up employment with the Quinn Printing Co. in Woodbine for three years, retiring in 1980. A U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and had formerly belonged to the Eagles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John I. Biddle, Jr. of Mary Elmer Drive, two daughters, Cheryl Raines of Weymouth Place and Nancy Biddle at home. Four sisters, Elizabeth Miller of Old Deerfield Pike, Ella Elkins of Millville, Eva Stahlberger of Woodbury and Christine Simpkins of Cedar Street. Five grand children and a great grandson. He was pre-deceased by two brother, Charles and Ray Biddle, a sister, Esther Biddle and a grandson, Jeffrey Biddle.
Services will be held 11 am Wednesday from the Carll Peterson Hacqua Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce Street, with the Rev. David Wilson, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church officiating. The interment will be made at Laurel Lawn cemetery. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
