Mary Ann's first husband was John Thomas Mitchell, born 8/19/1851 in Mississippi. He died about 1881, possibly in Bastrop as the June, 1850 census shows them living in Bastrop County, Texas. They had four children: John Thomas,Lucinda Caroline "Carrie", Margaret Ellen (1878-1881 probably buried in Bastrop) and Samuel Edward "Eddie".
