John was the third of four children of John Clardy and his wife, Lucinda Plants Clardy.
John had three wives:
(1) Margaret Elizabeth Pruitt whom he married in Van Zandt County, Texas on Jan. 8, 1862. They had eleven children: John William; Joseph Chandler; William Elijah; James Alfred; Walter Sidney; Ardella (Della); Caldonia; Lilly Mae; Ernest Almond; Thomas Rife; and Monroe Franklin.
(2) Lena Parrish whom he married sometime before 1803. They had two children: Infant Son and Carrie Augusta.
(3) Elizabeth (Bettie) Hornbeck whom he married in 1911. They didn't have any children.
