COOK, ENOS . — Age, 42 years.. Enlisted, August 20, 1862, at Dryden, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. I, October 8, 1862; died, December 18, 1863, in camp, at Lookout Valley , Tenn.

His widow, Julia A. Rummer Cook, filed for a Widow's pension, 15 Feb 1864. The were married 21 Feb 1842, Tioga, New York. She was a resident of Dryden, Tomkins County, New York, at the time of application. One minor child, Lavina Cook, age 15, received a Minor's pension until the age of 16. (Lavina is listed as Nancy L. Cook in the 1860 census.) Their son, James H. Cook, served in Company A 10th New York Cavalry, and died 6 Jan 1868. In a Declaration for a Nurses Pension, 6 Apr 1893, in the file, it states that Julia A. Cook also served as a nurse during the war under Miss D. L. Dix, from 17 June 1864 to unknown date, at Judiciary Square General Hospital, Washington, D.C. Her claim was rejected as the government could only find that she had been paid for May and June of 1864. However, she did eventually get the pension increase, but it took an act of Congress - H.R. 4059. Julia died 19 May 1908. -above from Civil War pension file on fold3.com
