William enlisted in the U.S. Army April 4, 1918 and served in World War I as a cook.
On October 16, 1919, W.L.Conn married Vesta L. Crabtree of Alabama in Chattanooga, TN. They had two children, Willard Lamar and James "Jimmy" Crabtree Conn.
"Uncle Will" as he was known in the family, was a Butcher in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee for thirty-two years. His business was called Conn's Meat Market and was located on East 9th Street which is now East Martin Luther King Blvd. The Conn's residence was at 15 Belvoir Avenue.
Mr. Conn was a member of the Brainerd Lodge No. 736, F&AM and a member of the Elks Club and the American Legion.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 24, 1975, at 11 AM in the West Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Lee Roberson officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery. Masonic graveside services were held by the Brainerd Lodge 736, F&AM.
(My grandmother fondly remembers (along with her parents) staying many times with "Uncle Will" and "Aunt Vester" and being treated like royalty.)
Attention: To the descendants of William Conn, I would love to met my cousins by correspondence. Please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and say hello. cousin Amy
