Served in Co. H 11th Vermont Infantry during the Civil War. Captured 6/23/1864 at the Weldon Railroad and survived Andersonville. Paroled 12/11/64. Mustered out 6/29/65. Admitted in 1879 at age 33 to the National Home for Disabled Soldiers ( Northwestern Branch) at Milwaukee with chronic muscular rheumatism. On the 1880 Federal census residing in Republican, Clay County, Kansas. Married Olive Alger Norcross of Winchendon, Massachusetts, in 1884. Listed as residing in Gardner, Massachusetts, on 1890 SFVHA roster and living in Winchendon on 1920 Federal census. Died 11/17/1923. Buried in the Norcross plot in the Riverside Cemetery at Winchendon. A small headstone bears the inscription:

On the reverse side is inscribed:
CO. H 11th REG. VT. INF.
There is a GAR stake labeled VETERAN 61 - 65. Granted an invalid pension in 1888. Olive A. Adams granted a widow's pension in 1923.
