Occupation: Farmer

Mexican War: Answered the second call for volunteers and enlisted as a Private. On October 8, 1847 he was mustered into Company 'C', 3rd Tennessee Regiment of Foot Volunteers, General Cheatham commanding. Company encamped at Nolensville Pike, 2 1/2 miles from Nashville. From there the company was transported to New Orleans, Louisiana by boat and shipped to Vera Cruz, Mexico. In Vera Cruz a brigade was formed and arrived at Mexico City after the city's capture. The brigade engaged as occupation troops until late May 1847 when they were repatriated back to Tennessee.

Note: Probably due to a misreading of the curisive writing of the period, Calaway Tucker is listed as Carraway Tucker or Calloway Tucker on some 3rd Tennesee Muster Roll records.

Civil War: Camp Trousdale, Sumner County, Tennessee: Enlisted in Company 'A' formerly Company 'C' (Swan Guards) 32nd Tennessee Infantry Regiment (made up of men from the counties of Giles, Lincoln, Lawrence, Marshall, Williamson, and Franklin Counties) on October 28, 1861. Elected Captain.

November 14th, 1861: Deployed to East Tennessee to guard railroad bridges and suppress insurrection in Hamilton, Sequatchie and Marion Counties.

December 9, 1861: Bowling Green, Kentucky

January 31, 1862, Ordered to Fort Donelson arriving shortly before the battle.

February 16, 1862: Captured at Fort Donelson by the Federal army under General Grant

April 1862: Interred at Johnsons Island, Ohio Prisoner of War Camp. Prisoner exchanged at Vicksburg, Mississippi on September 12, 1862.

September 19, 1862: 32nd Tennessee Infantry reformed as 4th Consolidated Tennessee Infantry Regiment at Jackson, Mississippi. Re-elected as Captain of Company "A" (Tucker's Company)

October 12, 1862: Detached service at Murfreesboro

December 25, 1862: Detached service to Wartrace. Employed in guarding the railroad bridges when the Battle of Murfreesboro was fought on December 31, 1862.

May 1863: Stationed in the vicinity of Tullahoma and Fairfield, Tennessee, with one move to Loudon and return.

July 31, 1863: Detached service to La Fayette, Georgia

August 1863: Detached service to Charleston.

September 2, 1863: Detached service to Chickamauga.

September 18, 1863: The Battle of Chickamauga September 18-21. Commander of the Regiment is wounded and Acting Major C G Tucker assumed temporary command of the regiment. On October 31, Major Tucker is relieved of the command of the regiment.

November 25, 1863: Battle of Missionary Ridge

December 1863: Winter quarters at Dalton, Georgia, where, with the exception of one move to Rome, Georgia, from February 5 to 25, the Company remained until the resumption of fighting

May 13 to August 31, 1864: Fought engagements in Georgia at Swamp Creek, May 13; Resaca, May 15; New Hope Church May 24; Marietta, June 22 and near East Point, August 31. Promoted Major of the 32nd Tennessee Regiment on August 7, 1864

November 30, 1864: Battle of Franklin

March 18, 1865: Detached service to North Carolina

May 1. 1865: Surrendered with the rest of Johnston's Army, and paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina
