Served as a Private with the 4th Delaware Infantry, Company K during the Civil War.

He was a 40 years-old butcher from New Castle, Delaware, when he enlisted in the 4th Delaware Volunteer Infantry.

He was discharged on Sept. 14, 1863, after suffering contusions of his spine and pelvis jumping from a railcar in November 1862.

He was deemed totally disabled from this accident.
