He was a son of the late James Henry and Willie Freeman Hendrix. As a member of First Baptist Church of Simpsonville, he served as a Sunday school teacher and as a deacon. He was also a member of Brandon Masonic Lodge and served as worshipful master on two occasions. He was a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in textile engineering and later served as a plant manager for the Beattie Plant in Simpsonville. He retired from Hoechst Fibers Inc. of Spartanburg.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are a daughter, Elaine H. Smith, and her husband, Frank H. Smith Jr., of Simpsonville; a son, James L. Hendrix, and his wife, Susan D. Hendrix, of Aiken; four sisters, Lurline Burdette, of Easley, Reva H. Coker, of Greenville, Helen Hale, and her husband, William, of Athens, Ga., Nony Penlend, of Pasadena, Texas, and Judy Huff, and her husband, Joe, of Greenville; and three grandchildren, Matthew Hendrix, of Aiken, Justin Hendrix, of Aiken, and Elliott Smith, of Simpsonville.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, James L. Hendrix and Annie H. Oliver.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Simpsonville, with the Rev. Randy Harling officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on the day of the service. Interment will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Flowers will be accepted, and those desiring may make memorials to First Baptist Church of Simpsonville, 3 Hedge St., Simpsonville, SC 29681.
