His strange inscription, which appear to indicate he died before he was born, is due to the use in England at that time of the Julian calender, whose year ran March 25th - March 24th as opposed to the Gregorian system (January 1st - December 31st) which had not reached England yet. Strictly speaking, his year of death should also be 1683 but this database cannot accommodate dates of death which precede the person's birth.
