Former Fairview Bishop Dies
Bishop Robert Henry Hillstead, 83, of Fairview died Wednesday night in the local LDS hospital of injuries received when he slipped on the porch of his home and fractured his ribs. Death was due to complication resulting in pneumonia.
Mr Hillstead was born May 15, 1870 in England and moved to the United States the following year to settle in Salt Lake city with his parents who were converts to the LDS Church.
survivors include five sons and three daughters, William Hillstead of Kalispell Montana; Joseph Hillstead of Salt Lake City; George Noah Hillstead and David Hillstead of Fairview; Gray Hillstead of Osmond; Mrs Millie Pedersen of Seattle, Washington; and Mrs Frank Hill and Mrs Thomas Linford Saratoga, Wyo.
Funeral arrangements will be made by the Star Valley Funeral Home, and will be announced in the near future.
Hillstead Rites Held Saturday at Fairview
Funeral Services for Bp. Robert Henry Hillstead were held at the Fairview Ward LDS Chapel November 28 at 2 p.m. with Bishop C. Stuart brown officiating.
Prayer in the home was given by Bp. D.A. Chadwick. Prelude music for the program was played by Gladys Shumway followed by a song by the Singing Mothers. Willard Brown offered the invocation.
Featured speakers for the day were Clarence Erickson, H.E. Child and Albert Barrus. Musical numbers were presented by Douglas Barrus, the Shumway Sisters and a quartet consisting of Ronald Allred, Bud Pead, Eldon Allred and Leon Shumway.
Benediction was offered by A. R, Kennington and the dedication of the grave was made by Harry Croft.
Pallbearers were Garie Hillstead, Ted Hillstead, DeLoyd Hillstead, John Hillstead, Bob Hillstead and George Hillstead. The flowers were under the direction of the Fairview Ward Relief Society. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Star Valley Funeral Home.
Robert Hillstead was born May 15, 1870 in England and moved to the United States the following year to settle in Salt Lake city with his parents who were converts to the LDS Church. He attended elementary school in Tooele county, Utah and later met and married Mildred Atkins on June 22, 1899 in Tooele. The couple made their home in Eureka, Utah where Hillstead owned a barber shop. Shortly after he purchased a ranch in Randolph Utah and later moved to Fairview where he remained until his death at the age of 83/
Mr Hillstead was selected as Bishop of the Fairview Ward and remained in that position seven years. Bp. Hillstead was also instrumental in piping water to Fairview, served as school trustee and treasurer of the Fairview schools and was elected road supervisor for the Upper Valley for two terms.
Bp Hillstead is survived by five sons and three daughters, William Hillstead of Kalispell, Montana; Joseph Hillstead of salt Lake City; George Noah Hillstead and David Hillstead of Fairview; Gary Hillstead of Osmond; Mrs Millie Pedersen of Seattle, Washington; and Mrs Frank Hill and Mrs Thomas Linford of Saratoga, Wyoming.
