College Football Player, Coach. He was born in Arkansas City, Kansas and raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He achieved All-American status and two-time All-Conference selection while playing at the quarterback position during his college years at the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of the first Sooners team to win the National College Football Championship title in 1950. He was later chosen by the New York Giants in the 2nd round of the 1953 NFL Draft. As head coach at the University of Colorado from 1963 to 1973, Crowder guided the Buffaloes to the Liberty Bowl title in 1969 as well as appearances in the Liberty Bowl in 1970 and the Gator Bowl in 1972. After his coaching career, he served as athletic director at the University of Colorado. He was inducted into the State of Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, State of Colorado Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame. He died from cancer.
