Obituary
Eliza Maria Dewey dau of Eliakim Dewey and Phebe Whipple of old Puritan New England stock was born at Portage, Ohio, on Dec. 19, 1831 and died at her home near Liberty,(NE) June 28, 1922 at the ripe old age of 90 yrs, six months and nine days.

In 1850 she was united in marriage to Henry Hoyt Beardsley at Portage, OH, which was their home for the following two years. In 1860 they moved to Kilbourn, Wisconsin, where they lived for five years. After one year in Iowa they came to Nebraska.

They homesteaded the present home August 20, 1866, which has been her home for the past 56 years.

In March 1888, her husband preceded her in death. Many years ago failing health and strength rendered aid necessary in her care. Her niece, Belle Dewey, has for the past 10 years made her home with her and supplied this need. This public acknowledgement of her services are justly her due.

In the winter of 1860 she with her husband united with the Baptist church at Kilbourn, Wisconsin and each to the end of life remained zealous members of the Baptist faith. Through the generousity of the deceased was made possible the fine parsonage for the Baptist church at Liberty (NE).

The ailment of the body in her last years dimmed the once strong and vigorous mentality so that the end of her years of suffering comes as a welcome release to her tired and pain racked body, "for me to die is gain".

The funeral services were conducted at the home Thursday afternoon, June 29, at 2:30 by Rev. Burnham of Liberty, after which the remains were taken to Mt. Pleasant cemetery near Lewisville in accordance with her expressed wish to be laid beside her husband."

Eliza was the sister of Timothy Gilbert Dewey, William Francis Dewey, Hannah Sophia Dewey (Campbell) and Lorenzo Dewey.
