Miss Lucy Reimers of Jackson, Minnesota, who lived in Sioux Valley Township 54 years, passed away Wednesday, August 5, at the MN. University Hospital (Minneapolis, MN) where she had been a patient for the last 15 days.

Lucy Reimers, daughter of Peter and Christina Reimers, was born May 16, 1882, at Garwin, Iowa, and came to the Sioux Valley community with her parents in 1888. There she received her schooling. In 1902 she became totally blind due to spinal meningitis.
She lived with her mother and brother. After the death of her mother, she kept house for her brother and did all the cooking, washing, and baking, and even patched clothes. In 1942 when her brother Fred passed away she went to Jackson, MN, and was cared for by friends. For the last ten years she has lived with Mrs. Christina Hyde.
She is the last of a family of eight. Her parents and five brothers, Bill, George, John, Henry, and Fred and 2 sisters Mrs. Henry Braun (Phoebe) of Danube, MN. and Mrs. John Nugent (Katie) of Lake Park, Iowa preceded her in death.
She had a very good memory and voices of her friends were her delight, for she like to visit. She never wanted sympathy and said she would rather hear than see. In her last illness she was also quite deaf.
