Martha Jane Way, oldest child of Cyrus Munson and Mary Tuthill Way, was born near Wayne, Kan., on August 17, 1865, and passed away at her home near Agenda, Kan., on May 6, 1949, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 19 days.
Her girlhood was spent in the old Seapo community. Early in life she became a Christian, united with the Methodist church, and continued faithful until death.
On July 13, 1885, she was united in marriage to Romanzo Thompson at Belleville, Kan. To this union were born eight children, one of whom, Romanzo, died in infancy.
Most of her married life was spent on their farm near Agenda where all but two of her children were born and grew to young manhood and womanhood. The Thompsons celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary there in 1945.
Her time was spent in service to her family and he (sic) rcommunity (sic), her late years being devoted to the care of her ailing husband, who passed away two years ago.
She leaves to mourn her passing the following children: Mrs. Olive Baecht of Belleville, Orval Thompson of Trinidad, Colo., Elmer Thompson of Effingham, Kan., Mrs. Alma Barnes of Nunn, Colo., Arch Thompson of Agenda, Mrs. Martha Ryser of Effingham, Kan., and Wesley Thompson of Mission, Kan.; also 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters; besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 8, from the Agenda Methodist church (sic) at 2:30, with the Rev. Hjalmar Larson in charge of services. Interment was at Union cemetery (sic), Wayne.
