Michael H. "Mickey" Himes, 64 New Middletown –
Michael H. "Mickey" Himes went to his new life with the Lord on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 8:25 a.m. surrounded by his loving and caring family. He had a long four year battle with cancer – a disease he dreaded all of his life having lost his own father to it at a very young age. Mickey was born March 24, 1941 in Youngstown, a son of Vaughn and Hallie Dugan Himes. He was raised in Poland and graduated from Poland Seminary High School in June of 1959. As a teenager, he worked at Struthers A & P where he returned after his active duty in the Army from 1960 to 1962. He then was employed at Metal Carbides from 1963 to 1970. Mickey retired from General Motors in Lordstown in October 2003 after 33 years of employment. Mickey was an avid Musky fisherman and deer hunter enjoying many, many good times with his very special son, brother and good friends. He was awarded many trophies and was truly a good sportsman in all sense of the word. This was the one greatest love of his life – other than his wife, two wonderful children and his five grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Betty England Himes; a son Michael (Lynn) Himes of Canfield and a daughter Jeanne (William) Himes Francis of Columbus; five loving grandchildren and two step-grandchildren who were absolute treasures to him; Avery, Vaughn and Raygan Francis, Annabelle and Sherlyn Himes, Corey and Matthew Francis; a brother Terry (Mary) Himes who was also his lifetime friend; a sister Karen George who gave him a great deal of love and comfort; an aunt Flo Dugan and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was so very special to all of his in-law family. Throughout his lengthy illness, he had several friends who were with him almost daily and were a tremendous support. The love of Ron Rabosky and Jack Martz will be always remembered by his family. Mickey was loved by all who knew him. He touched many lives and will be remembered as a family man and a lover of all of nature's beauty. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cunningham Becker Funeral Home in Poland and Monday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Condolences may be sent at www.beckerobits.com
Burial – 13 Feb 2006 in Dean Hill Cemetery Section A, Canfield Twp., Mahoning Co. OH
