Anna Alberta Whiteis, known as Alberta, was the fourth child of Agnes (Kirk) and Bert G. Whiteis, was born 27 January, 1924, at Tulsa, Oklahoma. When she speaks of her childhood, she refers to the large city and the occasional big event of going to the farm for a visit with cousins: "We had the big treat of eggs fried in butter. And they had so milk!" Alberta has led a very busy life - a life of many varied activities - a life which has reflected twentieth century Tulsa. In her youth, she was encouraged to learn how to play the piano by her mother. At that time, she could not appreciate all of those lessons: "I hated it. What I really wanted to do was to learn to dance. I wanted to be a professional dancer. That got me into programs at the school. Then I took up acrobatic dancing, and since I was limber, I was asked to perform in various acts. Then I went into tumbling. In my schoolwork, I was an avid reader. My ambition was to work in foreign countries. But I had many interests, including the raising of rabbits." After her graduation from high school in Tulsa, she worked for awhile and then married Samuel Joseph Fasullo on 9 September, 1942. She had one child: Suzan Alberta Fasullo. After her divorce, she married John Ferguson and had a daughter: Sally Ann Ferguson. About 1957, Alberta divorced John and married Gilbert Petsch Baker on 2 April 1959. Gil adopted Sally. Gil's father was Arnold George Baker; his mother was Olive Cecilia Petsch. Gil graduated from Oklahoma State University. He was an industrial engineer. After retirement, he became a psychological counselor in the treatment of alcoholics. Alberta's professional career includes employment in Tulsa at Texaco, Anchor Petroleum, Standard Oil of Indiana and Cities Service. She started as a legal secretary, but later became the librarian of the legal division. At one time, she studied for and received a real-estate license. She subsequently enrolled for course work in horticulture at Tulsa Junior College. Alberta has had a major in innovative activities, for example, in research. She gets deeply involved in whatever she does - and enjoys the challenge. As an additional trait, she is, she says, "One of the original do-it-yourself people." When she was asked how she would like to be remembered, she replied, "A person who passed lightly by the way." At the age of twenty years, Alberta's height was five feet and four inches; her weight was 128 pounds. She had blue eyes. Her hair was wavy auburn. Her hair turned gray at an early age - a characteristic which runs through many members of the Whiteis family.
