Don was born in Many, La., to the late Clifton and Ruby Cooper. He was a loving husband and father. Don served in the United States Army and was a disabled veteran, but his disabilities never took away from his love of life and love for his family. He was an avid fisherman and loved China Spring football. He has been a lifelong Baptist and a member of Bosqueville Baptist Church in Waco.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Burns and Harold Cooper.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Pilgrim Cooper, of China Spring; sons, Brian Cooper and wife, Mitzi, of Shelbyville, Ill, and Don Cooper, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Little River, Texas; daughters, Kathleen Watt and husband, Martin, of San Antonio and Dayna Stelma and husband, Mike, of China Spring; and 12 grandchildren who were the greatest joy of his life; sisters, Wanda Cooper, of Tool, Texas, and Mary Baker, of Shreveport, La.; and loving mother-in-law, Doris Pilgrim, of Waco.
