Henry Tatnall Bush, Jr., of Wilmington, DE February 15, 2005.
Mr. Bush was born February 9, 1911 in Wilmington, DE. He was graduated from Tower Hill School, and Williams College in 1932 with a B.A. in English. Following a year studying Elizabethan Literature at Yale University Graduate School, he started at E.I. Du Pont de Nemours Co. as a clerk in the Stockholders' Relations Division.
He retired as the Secretary of the Du Pont Co. and Director of the Secretary's Department.
From 1942 to 1945 Henry Bush served in the U.S. Navy in the torpedo squadron on the USS Bunker Hill in the South Pacific Rabul, the Gilberts, Marshalls, Truk, and the Marianas and as an instructor at Pensacola Naval Air Station.
Mr. Bush eventually resigned from the Naval Reserves with the rank of Lt. Commander.
He quietly served his community as trustee of the Wilmington Medical Center; as Director and Vice President of the Union Library Catalogue of Pennsylvania; as a member of the executive committee of the Alumni Association of Williams College; as Director of the Delaware Nature Education Society where he also was Treasurer, a member of the publications committee, and most enthusiastically as a volunteer guide.
In February 1941 he married Anne Douglas McCoy of Wilmington.
Following the death of Anne McCoy Bush in 1974, Henry Bush married Elizabeth Gawthrop Canby in May 1975.
He enjoyed skiing, bridge, tennis, travel, fly fishing, and crossword puzzles.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Order of Cincinnati; Officers of the Colonial Wars; the Wilmington Club; and the Residents' Council at Cokesbury.
He is survived by Anne Bush's children, Anne Bush Little of Bethesda and Dr. Henry Tatnall Bush, III of Puerto Rico; his grandchildren, Jonathan Glenn Little and David Tatnall Bush; his great grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, and Isaac Little, as well as by his wife's children, Lisa Canby Semple of New York City and her children, Wendy Pulling and Edward Pulling, Marjorie Canby Lallemand of Paris and her children, Henri Pepin and Isabelle Drapier; and Sheila Canby Voss of London and her son, Tobias H. Voss.
A memorial service will be on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 2 pm at the Cokesbury Village Chapel on Loveville Rd., Hockessin, DE.
Burial will be private.
