OBITUARY

Died on the 24th of March at his home south of Franklin, John F. Bills, aged
48 years and 3 months. He was born in Johnson county, Dec 18th, 1840 and
was married to Jane M. Richard [sic-Pritchard], March 28th, 1861. To them
were born eight bright and loving children all of whom survive to share the
mother's grief and to be taught the inspiration of a noble father's life and
the path that leads to that father's God. Mr. Bills united with the M.E.
church at the age of eighteen and lived a faithful member until death. He
leaves behind him the monument of a good name which is better than gold and
the fragrance of his pure life fills the home and hearts of his bereaved
family. Although the suffering of this one was long and at times almost
unendurable, yet he did not complain or murmur at his lot, but was ever
cheerful and ready to look on the bright side. Every effort was made to
relieve his pain, hoping against hope for the restoration of health, but
medical skill was baffled in every attempt. And now in conclusion we
especially desire to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the wife and
children who realize the loss more keenly, and we can only point them to the
blessed one who has promised to be a husband to the widow and a father to
the fatherless. And may He who alone can heal the wound, bind up the broken
hearts, and in the great ingathering day give them beauty for ashes, and the
oil of joy for the spirit of mourning. E. P.
