William was the first of nine children, and the first of five sons, of William Briggs and Sarah Macomber. William was married to Elizabeth Lincoln on October 13, 1693 in Taunton, Massachusetts. William and Elizabeth had one child: Sarah Lane. After Elizabeth's death, William was married to Mehitable Blake on June 16, 1696 in Milton, Massachusetts. William and Mehitable had the following children: Agnes Briggs, Nathaniel Briggs, Mehitable Ware, Eliphalet Briggs, Seth Briggs, and Agnes Boldary.
