In a transcription of the diary of Col Samuel Hoey Walkup of Union Co.,NC, Walkup recalls recollections of situations with various soldiers. Included is: "McManus of Co., I. behaves quite gallantly . .". His family returned his body to Taxahaw for burial. He left a wife, Mary Minerva (Cook) and 5 ch: Amos W., J. Thurlow, Susan Rebecca, Frances and Nathaniel John all of Goose Creek Twp., NC.
