Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the parlor of Park Place Towers with Jerry Bell officiating. A private burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Velma was born Dec. 20, 1911, in Cisco, to Oscar and Mary Emily Medford. She married Perry Ford in 1952, in Santa Fe, N.M.
The family came to Amarillo in 1950. The became members of First Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member of the Heritage Club and the Pilgrim Sunday school class.
Velma worked at Gattis Shoe Store for many years, retiring in 1976. Her husband, Perry, died April 11, 1988.
She was a dedicated volunteer for BSA Hospital and also volunteered at Park Place Towers. On Feb. 22, 1992, she married Ellis Buchanan at Park Place Towers. Ellis died March 2, 2008.
She was also preceded in death by her 10 siblings.
Survivors include a son, Robert "Mac" McDaniels and wife Jalyn of Colleyville; a brother, James Medford of Roseburg, Ore.; two grandsons, John and Mike McDaniels; a great-grandson, Robert McDaniels; and many other loving family members and friends.
The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.
