Mr. John A. Prickett
Anniston - Funeral services for Mr. John A. Prickett, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008, in the Chapel of The First United Methodist Church of Anniston with the Reverend Hal Noble and the Reverend Woodfin Grove officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, from 12 p.m. until the service hour.
Mr. Prickett died Saturday, September 6, 2008, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Prickett served for more than 32 years, both active and reserve, in the US Army and retired as a Colonel. He was a veteran of both World War II and Korea. His decorations included the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Jacksonville State University.
Mr. Prickett retired after 20 years as the Director of Training at Ft. McClellan. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Anniston for 60 years. He was also a member of Anniston Masonic Lodge 443, VFW Post 924, the Anniston Quarterback Club, the Military Officers Association of America, the Calhoun-Cleburne County Auburn Club, and the Jacksonville State University Alumni Association. He was an avid Auburn fan.
Mr. Prickett is preceded in death by his sisters; Georgia P. Hooper of Tuscaloosa and Christine P. Hanks of Talladega, and a brother; Rowan M. Prickett of Chattanooga, TN. Mr. Prickett is survived by his wife; of 67 years, Madeleine S. Prickett of Anniston; a son, and daughter-in-law; John E. and Betty Prickett of Germantown, TN; grandson, Wesley Prickett of Germantown, TN; granddaughter, Ashley Youngblood of Olive Branch, MS; brother and sister-in-law; James and Evelyn Prickett of Florence, AL; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Les Pair, Cecil Vaughn, Frank Stewart, Mannon Bankson, Bill Farrell, and Floyd Hamil. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the L.H. Carre Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church of Anniston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The First United Methodist Church of Anniston Building Fund or to the L.H. Carre Sunday School Class Scholarship Fund in care of First United Methodist Church of Anniston.
