Juanita, "Nita," Curtis of Hutto, Texas passed on June 30, 2023 at the age of 99 years, while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 6, 1924, in Putnam, Texas to Riley and Eula Lee. She grew up in the Lynn County, Texas area and one of ten children. They were a tenant farmer family, living and working on a small farm near Tahoka Texas during the Great Depression.
After the end of World War II, she met and later married James Curtis on October 25, 1947. They shared lives together in their beloved Texas and raised two sons. Mrs. Curtis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and daughter who deeply loved and adored her entire family. She was a devoted housewife and mother who provided loving home to her two sons. As the boys grew older, she went to work selling men's clothing at stores in Austin and Round Rock. Although she held different jobs, her most important and meaningful role was in the family.
Mrs. Curtis was a devoted member of several churches. In the 1960-1980s, she is a long-time member of the Manchaca Baptist Church. Later, when she moved to Hutto Texas, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Round Rock. Mrs. Curtis found joy in spending time with family and friends. She became an excellent painter of Texas landscapes, and in her later years, enjoyed a friendly game of cards and bingo.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James (Jim) Curtis, son Jim Curtis, and parents Riley and Eula Lee. She is survived by her son Mike, and her daughter-in-law, Judy Curtis. She also cherished her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
