Ezra Campbell Sr. died at the home of Mr and Mrs. J. Arnold in Montpelier Monday morning at 7:30 June 21st.
He took sick in Fairview3 about two weeks ago and his sons took him to the hospital in Soda Springs for treatment. he recovered sufficiently to be brought to the Arnold home in Montpelier where he was tenderly cared for by Mr and Mrs Arnold. The night previous to his death he was felling the best he had felt in several weeks. there was company at the home and Ezra amused them by playing the Jews Harp. After daylight on the morning of his death he spoke to Otis
Arnold with whom he was sleeping. They both fell asleep again and when Mr. Arnold called for breakfast Ezra did not wake, the angel of death had visited him so quietly and peacefully that not even his arms were moved from their usual position
His sons and brother Chester were immediately sumoned. The body was taken to the Williams Undertaker Parlor and prepared for burial and then brought to Fairview for funeral services and interment.
Ezra Tille Campbell was the son of Grant and Caroline Elizabeth Hubbard Campbell. He was born in Bloomington, Idaho July 10 1864. He spent his boyhood days in Montpelier coming to Star Valley with his fathers family the fall of 1884. He married Margret Blanchard and to them was born four sons and two daughters. His wife and son Loi preceded him to the great beyond. The living children are Ezra D; L Frederick Campbell and Mrs Reita Pead of Fairview, Mrs Inez Thornton of Osmond and Lewis Campbell of Montpelier, Idaho. He is the father of nineteen grandchildren all of whom are living.
Mr Campbell filled an honorable mission in Michigan and surrounding states in the years of 1901-02 and held several positions of trust in the Fairview ward.He was active in pioneering in Wyoming, Oregon and Montana, spending the most of the last two years in Utah. He experienced many hardships incident to Pioneer life. He and Mr Welch brought the mail in from Montpelier to Star Valley on snow shoes in the winter of 1885.
Funeral services were held in Fairview Wednesday afternoon, The opening prayer was offered by Orson Harmon and the benediction pronounced by Riley Hoopes. The choir under the direction of Harry Croft sang the solo "Face to Face."
Eulogistic and comforting remarks were made by Orville Child Sr. of Ogden, Leo Smith, Albert Barrus, Orlando Barrus and Bishop Hillstead. A large cortage followed the remains to the Fairview Cemetery. The grave was dedicated by C.F. Campbell.
Among the relatives and visitors present were: Mrs. Clark Gray, son Paul and daughter Ruth of Perry, Idaho, Mr and Mrs. O.R. Child of Ogden, Utah, Mr and Mrs. Ray Campbell, of soda Springs, Mr and Mrs. Joe Orchard, Mr and Mrs. J. Arnold and Mrs and Mrs. Lewis Campbell of Montpelier.
