Elsie Margaret Braddock, 74 of Forked River, Lacey, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in West New York and lived in North Bergen and Cliffside Park before moving to Forked River 29 years ago. She was a parishioner of St. Pius X and a devout Catholic whose strong belief gave her great strength. Elsie worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Cedar Glen Lakes. After retiring in 2005, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, volunteering at St. Pius X and the Women's Club of Lacey. She also enjoyed playing bridge with friends. Her favorite time was spent with her loving family.
Beloved wife, mother and sister, Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Howard; her parents, Ida and Anton Urscheler; and her siblings, Tony Urscheler, Rose Hammerle, Emma Cuddy, Ida Muller, Ann Luongo, and Bill Urscheler. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Varites; a daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, Peter Komorowski; a son, Timothy and daughter-in-law, Beverly Braddock; a son-in-law, Frank Varites; her 11 grandchildren, Christine Testa, Matthew, Michael and Kyle Varites, Peter, Daniel, Brian, and Kevin Komorowski, and Garrett, Dana, and Conner Braddock; and her siblings, Alice Reiser, Mary Moise, and Barbara DaPrato.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Growney Funeral Home, 1022 Lacey Road, Forked River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Church, Forked River. Interment will be in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1035 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ 08753.
