Mrs. Mary K. Barnes, pioneer of Goldendale and a daughter of John and Jane Golden, for whom the town of Goldendale was named, passed away in a hospital at Portland last Saturday. She was 83 years of age.

She was the widow of the late Columbus O. Barnes. Mrs. Barnes was born in Klickitat county, Washington, September 24, 1862. She was the second child born to John and Jane Golden, founders of the town of Goldendale, who settled in the Klickitat country in 1859. At the age of 22 she was married to Columbus O. Barnes, who came to Goldendale from Ohio in 1870. For many years they lived on a large farm near Goldendale, where they raised their family. Eight years ago they moved to Portland, where Mr. Barnes died in 1942.

Mrs. Barnes leaves five sons, Harvey of North Bonneville, Wash.; Howard of Ellensburg, Wash.; Clay of Eugene; Wendell of Tacoma, Wash.; Dewitt of Portland, and five daughters, Mrs. Clara Coffield of Estacada; Mrs. Cecile Ricketts of Salem; Mrs. Florence Bryant, Mrs. Ruth Moore and Mrs. Jessie McClure, all of Portland, 19 grand-children and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Edward Holman & Sons chapel Monday at 5:30 p.m. Graveside services and interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Goldendale, Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with many relatives and friends attending.
