Myrna Lucille Sykes, daughter of Martin and Elsie (Petersen) Petersen was born April 21, 1921, north of Hardy, Nebraska. She passed away on Monday, February 14, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 24 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hardy.

Myrna attended Wymore School in rural Hardy until the family moved to Ruskin in 1934. She graduated from Ruskin High School in 1938 and taught at rural schools at Carleton and Deshler for three years.

May 11, 1941, she married Rex Sykes at her parents' home. To this union four children were born. They farmed at Ruskin for six years, at Davenport for 33 years and retired to Superior in 1981.

Myrna was a member of the Ruskin Danish Brotherhood.

Preceding her in death were her parents and three siblings, Wayne, Virgil and Wilma.

Survivors include her husband, Rex; four children and their spouses, Mrs. Gary (Lana) Jordan of Salina, Kansas, Phillip of Norfolk, Nebraska, Steven of Lexington, Nebraska, and Mrs. Dennis (Loma) Grone of Davenport, Nebraska; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 16, 2000, at 2 p.m., at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Bill Waterman officiating. Music was "You Promised Never To Leave Me" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", with Hartley Petersen as soloist and Carlita Price as organist.

Pallbearers were Troy Jordan, Doug Sykes, Jeff Sykes, Jeremy Sykes, Brock Grone and Heath Grone. Honorary pallbearers were Elaine Madsen, Evelyn Leece, Carla Jensen, Grace Erickson, Ella Grove and Bonnie Paul.

Interment was in Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin, Nebraska.

Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
