C. W. was an honored pioneer family of McCreary County. He was 88 years and eight months old at the time of his death. He was one of six sons of John Marion & Jane Ramsey Trammell Shepherd. For more than thirty years he was a blacksmith for Stearns Coal and Lumber Company at Mine 11 Shop in Yamacraw. He married Elizabeth Cooper and they had a daughter, Minnie Shepherd. She was his only child. He married two more times after Elizabeth died in 1908 of TB. His second wife was Ida King; his third Rutha Stephens. His three wives are buried beside him in Bruce Cemetery.
