Burkholder Granted Commutation by Fine.
Frank J. Burkholder of Garrett, who has been serving time in Western Penitentiary for slaying his wife, won a commutation of sentence Wednesday. Governor John S. Fine ordered commutation of the sentence and Burkholder now becomes eligible for parole.
Burkholder was convicted in December, 1946, in Somerset County Court in the death of his wife, Katherine. He was charged with beating the woman to death in the kitchen of the Burkholder home in Garrett on Oct. 20, 1945.
A prison sentence of from 10 to 20 years was imposed by former Somerset County Judge Norman T. Boose.
