Born & raised in Salem, Spanish Fork Canyon, Pleasant Valley Junction & Tucker where he worked in his parents' hotel. At 19 he ran away from home & worked as a cowboy. He ran a steam hoist engine on the Uintah Indian reservation. He worked in the Gilsonite mines. He loved exploring Indian cliff dwellings. After marrying, they moved to Salt Lake and he learned the knitting business. They moved to California and set up the Jones Knitting Mills with their sons. He became vice president of Odd Fellows Lodge.
