His Navy Cross Citation reads:
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Brigadier General George Henry McManus, United States Army, for distinguished service in the line of his profession in charge of troop movements at the Port of Embarkation, Hoboken, New Jersey. His successful administration of troop movements and close co-operation with the Navy resulted in the rapid loading of troops at Hoboken and consequent quick turn-arounds made by troop transports during World War I.
