Enlisted & was mustered to active service 18 Aug 1861 to Co. G; 7th Infantry Regiment; Wisconsin Volunteers. He was and remained a Private. He was shown to have come from Grand Rapids, Wisconsin.
Killed in action at Antietam 17 Sep 1862. He was originally buried at the battlefield and later removed to Antietam National Cemetery.
His widow, Margaret, received a widow's pension #3237.
