OBITUARY
Matilda Rhoton (Grandma Ralston) who departed this life on Monday, Nov. 24 at her home, the home of her son, Grant Ralston, was born in Indiana March 11, 1833, and was thus nearly 81 years of age.
In childhood she moved with her parents to Tennessee, then in 1857 to Missouri, coming to Bourbon Co., Kansas in 1859, where she spent the rest of her life.
She was the daughter of a missionary Baptist minister, and was converted and joined the church in early girlhood, remaining true to the faith until the end.
She was married to David T. Ralston in 1859 and to them eight children were born, four of whom have preceded her. She leaves three sons and one daughter to mourn her departure; Grant Ralston of Uniontown, John Ralston of Elsmore, Elmer Ralston of Lewiston, Idaho and Mrs. Mary Drake of Uniontown. Also eight step children, four of whom are living: Joe Ralston of Redfield, Mrs. Ella Nichols of Bronson, and Mesdames Maggie Nichols and Mary Mason of Uniontown.
She was a kind and loving mother to her children and step children. None knew her but to love her. She was one of the first settlers of the neighborhood and was highly respected.
The funeral was conducted by Re. W. H. Tolliver, pastor of the first Baptist church of Ft. Scott, at the old Ralston homestead, five miles south west of Uniontown, Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. There was a very large attendance of friends. The funeral procession was half a mile long.
