Henry Rouzer was born July 7, 1806, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the 9th of 10 children of Daniel and Maria Sophia Schober/Shover Rouzer. His father was born in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and settled in Maryland. His mother was a Frederick County native. His grandparents were Martin and Sarah Graff Rouzer, natives of New Jersey, as well as Peter and Maria Sophia Ambrose Schober. On October 7, 1833, Henry married Catharine Schlosser, in Thurmont. They were the parents of 9 children: Josiah, who died at age 22; John Henry, who married Martha Ellen Clugston; Margaret "Maggie," who married John James Henshaw; Mary Elizabeth, who married Van Buren Osler; Amanda Catherine, who died unmarried at age 18; Laura Alice, who married Ezra M. Smith; Julia Ann, who married William Hamilton Damuth; and Sarah Jane, who married Alexander Beatty. Henry lived his entire life in Thurmont and died there November 15, 1887, and was buried at Apple's Church Cemetery there.
