Army Sgt. 1st Class Rodriguez was assigned to the K-9 unit of the 527th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th MP Brigade, Ansbach, Germany. He died of wounds sustained in Ana Kalay when his mounted patrol came under small arms fire. Early reports indicate Rodriguez was a hero during the battle, taking a bullet that would have struck a fellow soldier. Greg graduated in 1991 from Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. While in school he played on the football and wrestling teams. Three years later he joined the Army Reserve and liked the military so much he became active duty in 1996. Greg liked justice and if something wasn't right, he made it right. During his time in the military, he became so skilled at training the military dogs that he would be given the most difficult ones. His dog Jacko survived the ambush and had been Greg's best companion for the past couple of years. His wife, Laura, hopes the dog will be able to live with her and their three young children. During one conversation with his wife, she asked Greg if anything happened to him where would he want to be buried. He told her Arlington because he wanted to be among the best and the brave.
