Harry Gulledge and Rev. Alvin Porter officiating. Burial followed at Thorsby Memorial Cemetery in Thorsby, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Bentley was born on Dec. 20, 1919, in Alabama, the son of the late Eli N. and Maude Bentley. He was a farmer and served in the Navy. He died on Jan. 28, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, Bess N. Bentley, Thorsby; one daughter, Rebecca B. Gallups, Gulf Shores; one son, S.T. 'Tom' Bentley, Jr., Thorsby; one sister Margorie Bentley Vardaman, Birmingham; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Bentley.
